Job Title: Enforcement Officer – Environmental Protection Reference: FAFG4023 Service: Safer and Stronger Communities Grade: 8 Reports to: Senior Enforcement Officer – Environmental Protection Location: Various DBS: N/A Your job The post holder is classed as frontline staff having direct contact with the public, businesses etc to ensure the functions of the Environmental Protection Team as a whole are undertaken including within any focussed specialist area allocated to the post holder. This includes investigation of complaints, inspection of complex industrial processes, sampling, licensing activities, provision of advice/guidance internally and externally, enforcement and education activities and consultative requirements under the development control and Licensing (2003) requirements. In this job you will 1. Carry out enforcement activities for a range of domestic, retail and industrial activities in accordance with legislation, Codes of Practice and any guidance both internal and external to include the inspection of premises under Environmental Protection and Public Health Legislation. Details under context section. 2. Respond to all service requests from members of the public, commercial premises and other service users such as consultants and external organisations and determine the relevant enforcement action(formal/informal) to ensure compliance with environmental protection legislation. 3. Develop and maintain a high level of technical and procedural knowledge in all work areas covered by the Environmental Protection team and in any allocated specialist area within the service. 4. Support the work required for specialist technical areas such as Local Air Quality Management, Contaminated Land and Environmental Permitting as appropriate. March 24 OFFICIAL 5. Represent the local authority and the Environmental Protection team at meetings and working groups and disseminate information to other team members. 6. Participate in formal and informal education activities. 7. Provide data on performance against service plan and national indicator targets. 8. Use, maintain and calibrate specialist environmental monitoring equipment in line with manufacturers instructions to ensure that the data is accurate and reliable as it may be used for undertaking formal action in court. The job holder may be required at any time to undertake any work up to and/or at a level consistent with existing responsibilities. These tasks may be at any location in Cheshire East, to ensure the effective deployment of labour, materials, transport and equipment to meet daily service
