N1081 Finance Support Officer - Role Profile

 

Please note that experience is not essential as full training will be provided.

 

An opportunity has arisen to join the Business Rates Team (part of Revenues, Benefits and Service Centre) as a Finance Support Officer.

 

The Business Rates Team is responsible for the billing and collection of Business Rates and Business Improvement District Levy.

 

Prior knowledge is not essential as training will be provided, but what is essential is a desire and willingness to learn. Legislation underpins all the work, the ability to interpret, then apply, the relevant legislative requirements to a person’s individual circumstances will be essential. 

 

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

 

-         Undertaking national non-domestic business (NNDR) rate transactions, valuations, and processes

-         Monitoring arrangements and reviewing cases throughout recovery stages including write-offs

-         Raising property inspections, and conducting visits when necessary

-         Taking phone calls, dealing with customer enquiries and escalations.

-         Communicate with internal departments within the Council, governments departments and external organisations.

-         Conducting Experian and Land Registry searches

-         Processing bankruptcy, insolvency, and receivership cases

 

The successful applicant will be able to interpret individual, complex circumstances and be required to make decisions within current legislation boundaries and guidance. Whilst also responding independently to unexpected problems and situations when dealing with members of the public with queries or complaints.

 

You must demonstrate excellent communication skills and attention to detail as processing accuracy is critical. You must have the proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

As a service we are flexible workers, you will have a primary work location (Ballard House) and will have the opportunity to work from other sites or from home depending on business needs.
