An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our fantastic Motor Vehicle Department at Abingdon and Witney College in the position of Technician/Instructor to assist our growing team.

You will play an integral role in directly supporting the future generation of automotive industry employees to develop industry standard knowledge, skills, and behaviours. This combined role incorporates the maintenance and standard of vehicles and workshops, as well as instructing learners in the workshop and developing their knowledge and awareness of vehicle maintenance.

There will be an opportunity to work with a diverse range of learners from Entry Level 3 to Level 3 Apprentices, instructing across a range of areas including suspension and brakes, engines, chassis, exhaust and many more. You will already have relevant experience of the automotive industry, perhaps as a mechanic or technician and may have previous experience in instructing or training.

It is desirable for you to have a teaching, coaching, or assessing qualification. However, if you don’t have these qualifications, Abingdon & Witney College will support your development in these areas.

If you are passionate about developing and directing the next generation of learners and supporting their growth in the automotive sector, then this is the job for you.

Although a teaching qualification is an advantage, training opportunities exist within the College and we can support you in gaining your Award in Education and Training Level 3 Qualification (AET), within your first year of joining the college.

This role may be eligible for the ‘Taking Teaching Further (TTF)’ programme, which supports professionals as they move into teaching in the further education sector. Support from the TTF programme can include an initial reduction in teaching workload and enrolment onto teacher training.

In return, Abingdon & Witney College offer excellent benefits to our employees including generous pension and holiday schemes (with potential Christmas closure days), continued professional development, flexible working options, corporate gym membership, cycle/tech scheme and much more.

Closing date: 9th May 2024 (Midnight)

No candidate will meet every single desired qualification / criteria. If your experience looks a little different from what we've identified and you think you can bring value to the role, we'd love to learn more about you!

AWC values diversity and encourages applications from all sections of the community. We are committed to safeguarding and expect all our employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all appointments are subject to satisfactory clearances including enhanced DBS checks.

Abingdon and Witney College are committed to safer recruitment practices. In addition to our pre-employment checks, we will conduct an online search. We will be checking for any publicly available information that suggests the applicant may not be suitable to work with children or young/vulnerable people or content that could potentially damage Abingdon and Witney College’s reputation. This may include inappropriate posts, comments or images displaying evidence of offensive or inappropriate behaviour, jokes or language, discriminatory comments, inappropriate photos, drug or alcohol misuse.
