Job Description

We are recruiting a Research and Project Officer who will identify, develop and deliver GC business growth projects and programmes which support the delivery of GCs national plans to expand our reach.

This is a fixed term role covering maternity leave until 27 June 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To support on the planning, management and implementation of internal strategic and external consultancy projects, new work packages and cross cutting priorities as appropriate, including the coordination of the GC Business plan.
  • Maintain strong and effective working relationships with partners including GC Business’ partners, stakeholders and clients.
  • Develop strategically significant business growth related project packages, working with a range of partner delivery organisations as appropriate including the provision of advice to internal colleagues and external partners on project design and implementation.
  • Support GC Business’ Project and Operations Manager to manage all GC Business workstreams and the delivery of both internal and external projects.
  • Foresee and maintain a high level of awareness of national policy and programme developments related to business growth and the success of GC Business and be able to influence and contribute to these.
  • Co-ordinate, develop and support input into calls for funding, bidding and tendering.
  • Manage the GC business opportunities pipeline.
  • Obtain, collate and quality assure information and data required for the Director’s presentations and reports and, the drafting of papers/reports for meetings including the production of compelling presentation material (both internal and external).

About You: 

  • National, regional and local policy and programmes in one or more fields of business growth, skills and employment, economic development. (Ideal)
  • Excellent technical knowledge and expertise of public sector funding regimes. (Ideal)
  • Clear awareness of customer and partner priorities and understanding of political agenda and key local, national and regional players and their roles.
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.
  • Reliable, flexible and adaptable to change.

Skills and experience required: 

  • Analytical with a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to research and high attention to detail.
  • High level interpersonal, communication (written and oral), influencing and negotiating skills; able to demonstrate credibility.
  • Capable of conducting high level representational work in one-to-one and formal meeting/committee settings.
  • High-level of organisational skills and ability to multitask on multiple complex projects at once.
  • Good IT literacy – especially Microsoft Office.
  • Some experience of working within projects and/or public sector programme management experience.
  • Relevant service delivery and/or policy development, including one or more of development, design, implementation.
