Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

SFRS recognises the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and military families bring to our organisation. We ensure that as an organisation we uphold the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.

We continually promote the fact that we are an Armed Forces friendly organisation, seeking to support the employment of veterans of any age. Our Veterans Co-Ordinator regularly attends various events, such as COMMANDO CONNECT, to promote employment opportunities within SFRS. Though our extensive partnership working, SFRS strives to support the employment of Service spouses and partners, endeavouring to offer a degree of flexibility in granting leave for Service spouses and partners before, during and after a partner’s deployment.

As an employer of choice, we seek to support our employees who choose to become members of the Reserve Forces, including accommodating their training and deployment, where possible. Supporting our employees who are members of the Cadet Forces, by considering them as Reserve Forces. SFRS has a presence at the Armed Forces Day and provides personnel to attend Remembrance Day Services, throughout Scotland and the UK.

About us

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is the world’s fourth largest fire and rescue service and the largest in the UK. We deliver our front-line services locally from three strategically positioned hubs based in the North, West and East of Scotland.

We respond to many different emergency incidents including road traffic collisions, rope rescue, water rescue, hazardous materials and flooding as well as assisting our partner agencies to keep our communities safe. Our prevention and protection teams, through community engagement and national campaigns deliver crucial fire safety messages. We also work closely with key partners to deliver support, where and when needed to create safer communities for all of our people.

When emergencies do occur, our staff are ready and equipped to respond to many different types of incidents within our communities. Our aspiration is that by working together for a safer Scotland, we can help reduce the incidence of fire and continue to play a key role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the people of Scotland.
