Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
The Glasgow Academy is a War Memorial School with a long history of employing ex-serving personnel, reservists and spouses of serving personnel. We fully support requests for holidays before, during or after a partner’s overseas deployment, when the service person has leave to spend time with their family and our current HR policy states this clearly. We also accommodate reservists’ training commitments wherever possible.
We look favourably on applications from spouses of service personnel, and we understand the extra burdens placed on these individuals and as an organisation are fully committed to supporting them and their families.
We have a CCF of over 400 cadets with 13 CFAVs and we encourage our employees to actively support our 3 sections. The school has invested heavily in facilities for our cadets and reservists; recently the school has spent £80k repurposing our indoor range to house a DCCT which was acquired from Cardiff. This will be made available to reservist units and cadet forces.
About us
The Glasgow Academy is an ambitious, warm, welcoming, thriving and forward-thinking fully co-educational HMC independent day school based at Kelvinbridge in the West End of Glasgow. The school gains excellent SQA exam results, and raising academic results further is the central target of its School Improvement Plan.
The school has around 1600 pupils aged 3-18. It consists of the Senior School, of around 800 pupils of 11-18 years of age, and a Preparatory School, which has three sites (Kelvinbridge, Newlands and Milngavie) and also has around 800 children, including those in Nursery/Kindergarten.
Beyond academic achievement, we want all our pupils to thrive and contribute to a rapidly developing modern world and to do that we must ensure they leave The Academy with a socially conscious, innovative and global outlook. Our aim is that we provide our pupils with rich learning experiences that best prepare them for life after The Academy and also places value on the importance of sustainable education for future generations.
