Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

The Trust are committed to supporting the armed forces community, we recognise the contribution that service personnel both regular and reservist, veterans and military families make to our Trust.  The Trust has an Armed Forces Working Group , this reports into the Equality and Diversity Group, which reports into the Business Performance Committee and directly through to the Board.  The Group meet monthly with additional meetings held on an exception basis on the request of the Chair.

The Trust achieved Bronze status for the Defence Employment Recognition Scheme and are working towards Silver. The Trust is linked in with Step Into Health and has placed an advert in February’s edition of Civvy Street.

The Trust has developed a Reservist Policy offering an additional 10 days leave to reservist staff. The Trust has a Flexible Working Policy in place and this will take account of the need to change working patterns for the spouse/partners of serving members of the armed forces or reservists who may be called away for training or mobilisation.

The Walton Centre is the only specialist hospital trust in the UK dedicated to providing comprehensive neurology, neurosurgery, spinal and pain management services and rated as an outstanding Trust by CQC. Serving a catchment area of 3.5 million people across Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, the Isle of Man, N Wales and beyond with service partnerships with 18 NHS hospitals. With around 1,450 staff, The Walton Centre treats more than 127,000 outpatients and 18,000 inpatients each year.  With a general population in the North West of around 7,417,300, it is estimated that 784,749 (11%) are from the armed forces community.
